In this illustrated lecture Dr Colin Chapman will unravel some of the complex language used in wills, testaments, inventories and associated documentation in Britain in the past. He will describe how probate and related procedures were organised and administered in a variety of courts by both religious and secular authorities. Examples will be given of records generated, their present whereabouts and their value in family history research.
