Set in an attractive location on the banks of the River Thames, the museum has won numerous awards for its architectural design and its innovative galleries including the NPI/Museum of the Year for 1999. The museum brings together 3 themes - The River Thames explored from source to sea through its history, inspiration for the arts and its wildlife; the history of rowing from Greek origins to modern Olympic rowing boats and the history of Henley with its world famous regatta.
